I am the second eldest mokopuna of Lily Riria Reeves (nee Huntley) and William (Bill) Maui Reeves, and eldest daughter of Marama and Duffy Burgess. I attended Waikawa Bay School, Queen Charlotte College, Victoria University before transferring to Christchurch Teachers College to complete my teaching qualification. After teaching at Waikawa Kohanga Reo and Marlborough Girls College, I travelled to China and the Middle East for teaching roles. My two children and I returned home to Waikawa in 2019, so they too could experience life as ‘ringa raupa’ and contribute to the ora of our whanau, marae and iwi.
In 2020, I was elected to the trust board and served one year, before being elected as the Chair for the remaining 2 years of my term. I am humbly privileged to be part of the board and excited to seek re-election for 2022-2025
A huge part of my ‘why’ centers around the aspirations, dreams and ambitions of, for and as uri. This relies heavily on my ability to connect and engage with uri, so that the boards’ whakaaro/vision echoes that of uri.
My priorities for 2022-2025
- Hauora– increase the health and wellbeing of our uri and iwi
- Matauranga – build uri capacity and share learning and knowledge
- Whakapapa – connect with uri for future prosperity
- Kaitiakitanga – preserve and strengthen the state of our whenua and uri
