Tuia Rangatahi Leadership Programme
In 2019, Mayor Rachel Reese will be taking part in the Tuia Rangatahi Leadership programme, and wishes to invite rangatahi to apply to participate. The Mayor will select a rangatahi Māori from Whakatū who they will mentor over the year. Thereby creating an opportunity to gain deeper insights into inter-generational issues, cultural values and experiences. The following criteria will be used for selection, where the rangatahi is to:
- be aged between 18-25 years;
- be actively involved in contributing to the wellbeing of their community at some level;
- be able to commit to being involved in three three-day and two four-day wānaga (leadership forum) over a period of 12 months;
- have support from others to participate in the programme (whānau, hapū, pākeke)
- be open minded and willing to contribute to discussions and workshops; and
- be well organised and have the ability to manage their time and commitments effectively

Ka Pū te Ruha, Ka Hao te Rangatahi | Information Session
An information evening for rangatahi, their whānau, and community organisations will be held by past Tuia candidates of Te Tau Ihu in January 2019. Confirmation of time and venue will be sent out soon.
