Iwi register assistant

Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui is one of the eight Iwi in Te Tau Ihu and has an extensive membership across Aotearoa and Australia.  We see Te Ātiawa as a dynamic, progressive Iwi supported by our four Marae and will often take the lead in cultural, social, environmental and economic matters, especially where it affects our whānau.

An exciting position has been created at our Waikawa Office to assist our Iwi Register Administrator. 
Tasks are varied, but will include the following:

  1. Keeping our Whakapapa Register for Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui Trust current by updating existing records and adding new registrations, thereby maintaining integrity of our Iwi Register Base;
  2. Liaising with and assisting the Whakapapa Committee members in the important tasks they are performing;
  3. Assist with keeping our database cutting edge;
  4. Assisting whānau researching their whakapapa;
  5. Assist with administering our educational, cultural and sport grants;
  6. Up to 40 hours per week.

 
Ideal Person Specification:

  1. Ideally, prior experience working in a kaupapa Māori environment within Iwi registrations;
  2. Administration experience;
  3. Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with a wide range of people;
  4. Computer literacy and accuracy;
  5. An understanding of Tikanga Māori, particularly Te Reo Māori;
  6. Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui registered Iwi Member is a preference; 
  7. Tertiary qualifications in administration, business computing or office management would be an advantage.
