Vector Free Marlborough Limited

14 August 2020

To Whom It May Concern,

Vector Free Marlborough Limited (VFML) wishes to advise landowners and other interested parties that it will be commencing aerial application of the toxin Sodium fluoroacetate (1080) to the Aorere portion of the Kahurangi predator control project area from dawn on 16/08/2020.

The aerial application of toxin is expected to take up to two days to complete subject to weather.  Should weather conditions prove unsuitable, work will begin on the first fine day thereafter.  Further notification will be provided in the event of an extended delay occurring.

All walking tracks in the control area will have toxin aerially applied to them.  Affected facilities include the Heaphy Track and Shakespeare Flat Track.  Access to these sites will be restricted while the operation is carried out and afterwards until facilities have been inspected and cleared of most 1080 baits.  Closures will be in place from late afternoon on 15/08/2020 and will be identified using signage and barrier tape.  People intending to enter the control area during this period are encouraged to contact VFML or Department of Conservation offices for up-to-date advice.

The public are reminded that warning signs indicate that pesticide residues may be present in baits or animals.  Game animals should not be sold or taken for eating from within or adjacent to the control area until it is declared clear of pesticides.  When signs are removed, this means you can resume normal activities in the area.  Please report suspected vandalism or unauthorised removal of signs to VFML or the nearest Department of Conservation office.

The Aorere operation is being carried out on behalf of the Department of Conservation as part of its Tiakina Ngā Manu programme to control a range of introduced predators threatening vulnerable native species.  These species include whio, rock wren, kea, kaka, great spotted kiwi, Powelliphanta snails and long-tailed bats.  Additional information and maps of the project area may be obtained from the DOC and VFML websites or by contacting VFML per the details below.

NOTIFICATION RE CONTINUATION OF AERIAL PREFEED APPLICATION IN THE AORERE BLOCK

 August 2020

NOTIFICATION RE CONTINUATION OF AERIAL PREFEED APPLICATION IN THE AORERE BLOCK

Further to earlier notification, Vector Free Marlborough Limited (VFML) wishes to advise landowners and other interested parties that it will be continuing the aerial application of non-toxic prefeed bait in the western portion of the Aorere block, from dawn on 04/08/2020.  It is expected this will take up to two days to complete, subject to weather.

The eastern portion of the Aorere block (refer accompanying map) had non-toxic prefeed aerially applied to it on 27/07/2020, but weather conditions prevented completion of the remainder.

Further notification will be provided prior to the aerial application of toxin beginning.

Outward Bound

Tēnā koutou,

Outward Bound is committed to recognising Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a part of our strategic vision, and to enriching our connection with students from a Māori background.
In the past Outward Bound has worked to recruit instructors with strong connections to Te Ao Māori, however, this has met with only limited success. In our efforts to deepen our bi-cultural commitments and reach more New Zealanders, we would like to appeal directly to communities and individuals with strong links to Te Ao Māori.

Outward Bound 3 Day Invitational
To help achieve this whāinga, we would like to invite individuals with linkages to Te Ao Māori to attend a 3-day invitational course in August 2020.

The purpose of the invitational is to provide an Outward Bound experience that allows those attending to gain an insight into what we do. We will also showcase outdoor education as a career and our organisation as a workplace. We hope to gain ideas on recruiting staff from a Māori background and grow our understanding of how to better connect with Māori students.

Criteria for attending the invitational include:
• a strong interest in the development of people
• a strong interest in outdoor environments
• open to learning and sharing
• physically capable of completing a 3.2km run in under 25 minutes
• a good understanding of Te Ao Māori / Te Reo
• an interest in becoming an outdoor education instructor
• some maturity and life experience (most instructors are aged between 25-50 years)
