About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to come and work in our beautiful part of the country as a Kaitakawaenga - Iwi Liaison Officer. Be part of an expanding and innovative MPES team who live the values of Whakaiti, Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Tikanga.

 

The successful candidate will have experience in achieving supportive resolutions, engaging different partners and stakeholders within the community and wider district, and influencing the mind-set of those they work with in order to better provide resolutions that support iwi and community needs.

 

If you love working with our community and being the face of Police within the Māori community, this is the job for you. You will bridge and enhance relationships with Māori and other ethnic communities and develop positive relationships for safer communities together.

We have an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Advisor in our Te Tai Hauāuru Regional Office, Te Puni Kōkiri.

This role is based in Te Tau Ihu and will be located in our Nelson office.  In this role you will be accountable for leading the regional office work programme which includes:

  • Working with agencies, organisations and providers to assist them to improve their outcomes for Māori
  • Acting as an effective conduit for information both into and out of Māori communities to support Māori initiatives
  • Managing and analysing information at a local level on Māori views, aspirations and experiences, to contribute to Te Puni Kōkiri policy thinking
  • Assisting whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisation's and communities to develop and implement initiatives that will enable them to achieve long-term economic and social development
  • Managing local level contractual arrangements and be a leader in the relationships held with stakeholders
  • Providing mentoring and coaching to Advisors in the region
  • Informing investment decisions in partnership with the Investment Directorate and policy colleagues.

To be successful in the role you will bring either public or private sector experience, and will ideally possess:

  • Experience in community development working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisation's and Māori communities
  • Ability to identify, build and actively manage significant relationships, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences
  • Comfort in working in a tikanga/kaupapa Māori environment, a degree of fluency in te reo Māori is of benefit
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven effective use of project management disciplines to support work
  • Understanding of the government and the public service and public sector
  • Understanding of the relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi to the work being undertaken
  • A clean full motor vehicle driver's license.

He whakamōhiotanga tēnei i te tūranga Takawaenga Māori ki Whakatū. The resource teacher of Māori is based at Nelson Intermediate School. The designated cluster of schools to be supported by the resource teacher of Māori are schools with immersion classes (currently Level 1 and 2), in the Whakatū Kāhui Ako.

The prime purpose of the resource teacher of Māori is to assist tumuaki and kaiako to provide teaching and learning programmes for students in Y0–8 who are undertaking Māori immersion programmes at Levels 1 and 2.

The objective of the service provided by the resource teacher of Māori is to enable kaiako of Māori language programmes to demonstrate gains towards self-sufficiency in te reo Māori and other te reo Māori curriculum areas; the main role of the resource teacher of Māori is to support kaiako to ensure that quality programmes are developed, delivered, and evaluated.

We are seeking a person who is:

  • An experienced, registered primary teacher
  • Fluent in te reo Māori and knowledgeable about te ao Māori
  • Proficient in second language acquisition skills
  • Able to support teachers working at Levels 1 and 2 immersion programmes
  • Able to gather, analyse and report information to identify strengths and areas for development within the Kāhui Ako
  • Able to work with kaiako to assist and improve their curriculum delivery and knowledge of te reo Māori and other curriculum areas through the medium of te reo Māori
  • Able to provide staff development opportunities for teachers
  • Able to support teachers in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, Te Marau-ā-Kura, Ngā Whanaketanga Rumaki reo Māori and Te Waharoa Arau a kura
  • Able to network with kura, local iwi and other resource teachers
  • A commitment to working with culturally responsive, strength and evidence-based inquiry practice.

Waikawa Marae Market

20th November 2020

Nau mai,, haere mai!! ki Waikawa Marae.
Waikawa Marae are holding a night market on the marae from 4pm to 9pm on the 20th of November 2020 with an emphasis on Te Ao Māori and the community.
We have some local whānau stalls included already and would love to see if there would be an interest for stallholders outside of Waikawa.

Public Consultation for the Proposed Dog Control Policy and Dog Control Bylaw Review

Public Consultation for the Proposed Dog Control Policy and Dog Control Bylaw Review

 

Council is required under section 10 and 20 of the Dog Control Act 1996, to have a Dog Control Policy and Bylaw that covers a number of issues, including regulating dog access in public places. Council is required to review the Bylaw every 10 years.  The previous review was completed in 2012.

 

Information on the proposed changes is outlined in the Statement of Proposal, the draft proposed Dog Control Bylaw and Policy.  This is available from the Marlborough District Council office in Blenheim, the Animal Control Office at 56 Main Street, Blenheim, from the Blenheim Library and the Picton Library/Service Centre and the Council website at:

As part of the review we invite your feedback on the proposed Dog Control Policy and Bylaw.

You can provide us with your feedback by making a submission online at:  www.marlborough.govt.nz.

Submission forms are also available at the Blenheim and Picton Council offices or at Animal Control, 56 Main Street Blenheim.  Once completed you can mail the form or deliver it to the Blenheim Council offices or email a copy to:  dogcontrolbylawreview@marlborough.govt.nz.

 

Council will consider all submissions when making decisions on the proposed bylaw.  People who would like to speak to Council in support of their submission will be able to during a hearing in early December.  Please make sure you include your contact details (name, phone, email and postal addresses) and whether or not you wish to speak to Council at a hearing.

 

The six week consultation period started on 18 September. Submissions must be received by Council no later than 5.00 pm on Monday 9 November 2020.
