SH6 Blenheim to Nelson Speed Limit Review Consultation
The NZ Transport Agency is consulting under clause 2.5 of the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2017 on permanent speed limits for State Highway 6 (SH6) between Blenheim and Nelson.
We are proposing a range of speeds along this route:

There are numerous communities and schools on SH6 it’s popular with cyclists, busy with freight and commuters, and there are school children and others crossing the road in 100km/h environments.
In the 10 years between 2009 and 2018, 20 people lost their lives and 92 were seriously injured in crashes on this road.
In recent months, we’ve been speaking with the community and local businesses, and other key organisations about how we can improve safety.
We are investigating safety improvements, but one of the best things we can do right now to prevent people from dying or being seriously injured is reduce speed limits, so they are safe and right for the road.
Consultation documentation, a map of the route showing the proposed changes and more information is available at www.nzta.govt/speedreviews
The consultation period runs from 15 October to 12 November 2019 (the consultation form is included in the attached information pack).
Yours sincerely,
Jim Harland
Director Regional Relationships South Island

Youth Plan engagement
You may be aware that the Ministry of Youth Development/Te Manatū Whakahiato Taiohi is engaging face-to-face with some rangatahi throughout Aotearoa New Zealand to seek their ideas on actions that could form part of a Youth Plan.
The Youth Plan will drive the youth-specific outcomes of the Government’s Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy and is about turning rangatahi voice into action. It will complement the Strategy by focusing on specific areas that rangatahi have said are important to them. The three focus areas are rangatahi voice, mental wellbeing and leadership.
We want to make sure we hear from as many rangatahi as possible, so we have launched an online survey so they can tell us what they think. We would really appreciate if you could help us by encouraging rangatahi to take this survey – it is open until 31 October.
We will be posting a summary of what everyone has said on our website and we will also post a link to this information on our Facebook page. If you need any further information, please email mydinfo@myd.govt.nz or call 0508 FOR MYD (367 693).
Nga mihi,
Juanita
