2 day trapping course run by NMIT & DOC in Nelson on the 9 &10th December

It is suitable for people who are at least familiar with trapping and belong (or want to set up) a trapping project, whether that be on your farm or in your community.

It is $154 to attend but you come away with a predator control plan for your new project; people who are already involved in a project have also found it ideal to tweek and upgrade their projects.

NOTIFICATION OF IMMINENT COMMENCEMENT OF AERIAL TOXIN APPLICATION
 
Further to earlier communication, Vector Free Marlborough Limited (VFML) wishes to advise that aerial application of the toxin Sodium fluoroacetate (1080) to the Oparara - Grange block (refer map) in the Kahurangi predator control project area will begin from daylight on 21/11/19. 
The operation is expected to take two days to complete, however commencement and completion are subject to weather.
In the event conditions on the stated day are unsuitable work will begin on the first fine day thereafter.  Further notification will be provided in the event of an extended delay occurring.
 
The public are advised that toxin will be aerially applied onto the following roads and tracks within the Oparara – Grange block:  Adams Flat Track, Box Canyon & Crazy Paving Cave Track, Fenian Track, Fenian Caves Track, Honeycomb Caves Walk, K-Road Mountain Bike Track, McCallums Mill Road and side roads (toxin application to DOC managed section only), Mirror Tarn Track, Moira Gate Track, Oparara Arch Track and Oparara Valley Track as well as a number of associated facilities.  Access to these sites will be restricted while the operation is carried out and afterwards until facilities have been inspected and cleared of toxin.  Closures will be in place from late afternoon on 20/11/19 and identified using signage and barrier tape.  People intending to venture into the control area during this period are encouraged to contact VFML or Department of Conservation offices for up-to-date advice.  
 
The public are reminded that warning signs indicate that pesticide residues may be present in baits or animals.  Game animals should not be sold or taken for eating from within or adjacent to the project area until it is declared clear of pesticides.  When signs are removed, this means you can resume normal activities in the area.  Please report suspected vandalism or unauthorised removal of signs to VFML or the nearest Department of Conservation office.
 
The Kahurangi operation is being carried out on behalf of the Department of Conservation as part of its Tiakina Nga Manu programme to control a range of introduced predators threatening vulnerable native species.  These species include whio, rock wren, kea, kaka, great spotted kiwi, Powelliphanta snails and long-tailed bats.
