2020 Tuia Programme

Applications for the Tuia Rangtahi Programme are now open.
Candidates for this programme must meet the following criteria:
- Māori between 18 – 25 years of age
- Be actively involved in their community
- Must be supported by iwi/hapū/marae/whānau or Māori community based organisations
This successful candidate:
1. Attend 4 weekend rangatahi wānanga held on marae around the country.
2. Receive ‘one to one’ mentoring from the Nelson City Council's Mayor and/or Deputy Mayor.
3. Engage in, or develop a community service project and other opportunities.

Come and join us for Marlborough Museum Natural History Week next week. As you can see below and attached, we have exciting events and workshops all week. All events are FREE. Booking essential - book early as we have limited spaces.
Marlborough Museum Natural History Week – 20 – 24 January 2020
Monday 1 p.m. for 7 and Under
3 p.m. for 8 – 12 years
Snails and Butterflies in the Museum
A reading of Watch Out Snail about native New Zealand snails plus come and meet the butterflies at Marlborough Museum (30 minutes), followed by a butterfly making workshop (45 minutes).
Tuesday 1 p.m. for 7 and Under
3 p.m. 8 – 12 years
Dead Things in the Museum
Moa bones, whale bits, snail shells, seashells, stuffed birds, dried cats – bring a torch? Theatre
Wednesday 11 – 11.45 a.m. All Ages
Meet a Biologist – Dr John Leader will answer your questions about the natural world and life as a curious researcher of insects and fish.
1 – 1.45 p.m. All Ages
Discovering local plants and animals – the legacy of Cook and Banks in the Marlborough Sounds (20 minute presentation followed by an optional mini essay to win a $30 Warehouse vouchers)
Thursday - 11 a.m. 7 – 11 years
How to create your own herbarium of pressed native plants – learn about ways to prepare plant samples to make your own collection. Workshop with Nigel Beevis.
Friday - 1 p.m. 7 and Under
2 p.m. 8 – 12 years
Meet an Archaeologist – Logan Coote will talk about his work as an archaeologist and show you what he has discovered. Shark teeth may be present.
