He wā maumahara

He wā maumahara

I te hekenga atu o te rā
tae noa ki te arangamai i te ata
ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou…

There was a large turnout at the recent Anzac Day Dawn Service in Waitohi, Picton and it was special being able to join with the wider community to commemorate the service and sacrifice of our soldiers, not forgetting our whānau who served in Te Hokowhitu a Tū (The 28th Māori Battalion).

Pictured is Paora reading the names of our whānau who didn’t return home from war at the pou whenua on the Picton Foreshore.

Several past pānui hold incredible stories of our Te Ātiawa whānau who were part of the 28th Māori Battalion such as Lieutenant Colonel Eruera Te Whiti O Rongomai Love and Private Harry Norton. You can read some of these articles written by Mike Taylor here.
