Vehicle social leasing scheme

I am getting in contact because we are looking for participants for research around a vehicle social leasing scheme. We are hoping to find suitable participants by the end of this week.

The Consumer Protection team from MBIE are testing out an idea for preventing debt. It would be a solution to the cycle of unaffordable and unreliable motor vehicles on expensive finance.

We are looking to speak with people who would be a good fit for a social leasing scheme. People would lease a car– this means not owning the car, but there is no debt to pay off. All repairs, WOF and insurance would be covered under the flat weekly/monthly fee. We are looking for people who have had or are currently having to take out loans for car repairs, or have an unreliable or old car. We are particularly keen to speak with people who are in situations of hardship, find it difficult to access transport and really need a vehicle for their everyday life (for example, they are single parents, they have or live with people with disabilities, they need a car for their job or for other obligations).

The time period we will be meeting with people is between 15 - 19 July. A researcher can meet them at their home, workplace or wherever they feel comfortable for 1.5 hours, to talk about their experience with transport and thoughts on the details of a social leasing scheme. They will be compensated $150 for their time.

If they have any questions, or are interested in participating you may pass their information back to us, or pass our information on to them. The primary contact for this work is:
