Marlborough Museum Natural History Week – 20 – 24 January 2020
Monday 1 p.m. for 7 and Under
3 p.m. for 8 – 12 years
Snails and Butterflies in the Museum
A reading of Watch Out Snail about native New Zealand snails plus come and meet the butterflies at Marlborough Museum (30 minutes), followed by a butterfly making workshop (45 minutes).
Tuesday 1 p.m. for 7 and Under
3 p.m. 8 – 12 years
Dead Things in the Museum
Moa bones, whale bits, snail shells, seashells, stuffed birds, dried cats – bring a torch? Theatre
Wednesday 11 – 11.45 a.m. All Ages
Meet a Biologist – Dr John Leader will answer your questions about the natural world and life as a curious researcher of insects and fish.
1 – 1.45 p.m. All Ages
Discovering local plants and animals – the legacy of Cook and Banks in the Marlborough Sounds (20 minute presentation followed by an optional mini essay to win a $30 Warehouse vouchers)
Thursday - 11 a.m. 7 – 11 years
How to create your own herbarium of pressed native plants – learn about ways to prepare plant samples to make your own collection. Workshop with Nigel Beevis.
Friday - 1 p.m. 7 and Under
2 p.m. 8 – 12 years
Meet an Archaeologist – Logan Coote will talk about his work as an archaeologist and show you what he has discovered. Shark teeth may be present.
